Why set up solar panels?

Solar panels on your farmland is the "crop of the future". It is an economically sound and secure investment and a source of long-term stable income.

Solar farms are carbon neutral and can serve as an attractive option for you as a landowner, who wish to continue with the current agricultural activities. Solar panels and equipment typically only cover around 30% of the leased area. This leaves plenty of space for livestock to graze, allowing you to generate further income from the land. As a benefit for the environment a solar farm will lead to increased biodiversity. In addition to this, solar farms has become cheaper to produce and construct, making it the perfect energy source in the transition towards a sustainable future.

Why collaborate with Tournesol Solar?

When you partner with Tournesol Solar you get a team of professionals, dedicated to this attractive business. We offer you 30-40 year leases, and attractive index linked payments for the use of your land for our solar projects.

These rental payments provide the assurance of secure long-term income to support your current and future plans.

Our partner European Energy, has a successful track record of developing, constructing and operating hundreds of MWs of solar and wind projects, being one of the largest sustainable energy developers in the UK.

Is my land suitable?

Typically, it would be preferable if your land is a minimum of 40 acres, not in close proximity to residential housing, and close to a grid connection point (33kV or greater overhead powerlines, or a substation). Ideally the land is grade 3 or below and relatively flat. If you do not have enough land, but your neighbour is also interested, we are happy to work with multiple landowners to achieve the acreage requirement.

What are the costs for me?

All costs associated with developing the site will be covered by us. In the unlikely event that a project is not successfully developed, there will be no cost to you.

How does the project develop?

Throughout the process you will be able to continue to farm the land as you wish so that your income is not affected.

Our team will manage the entire development process from start to finish, so you will always know who you are dealing with, and we will make sure to keep you updated.

You can see an illustration of the usual stages of a solar project and how it will progress after the initial contact, down below on this page.

What maintenance is needed?

Solar projects require very little maintenance. Typically there will only be a few visits per year from a small maintenance team. If any fault arises, our remote monitoring system will immediately notify our in-house asset management team who will take the appropriate action to fix the problem.
